1. About These Terms
These Terms of Service ("Terms") apply to all tours, travel services, and related arrangements offered by Roots Travel Srl, operating as Jewish Roots Travel ("JRT", "we", "us"), based in Bucharest, Romania. By booking a tour or engaging our services, you agree to these Terms. Please read them carefully before making a reservation.
2. Booking and Confirmation
A booking is considered confirmed once we have received your completed booking form and the required deposit payment. Upon confirmation, you will receive a written acknowledgement by email with your tour details, payment schedule, and any pre-tour information.
Places on our group tours are limited to 16 participants per departure and are allocated on a first-come, first-served basis. We reserve the right to decline a booking at our discretion.
3. Booking & Cancellation Terms
These terms apply to all journeys with Jewish Roots Travel. All prices are in US dollars.
Group Journeys
Reserving your place
A deposit of US $500 per person reserves your place on a group journey. The balance is due 120 days before departure. For bookings made less than 120 days before departure, full payment is due at the time of booking.
Fully refundable until 120 days before departure
If you cancel 120 days or more before departure, we refund your deposit in full, less a US $50 per person administrative fee.
Cancellation fees
Cancellation fees are per person and depend on when we receive your written cancellation:

These fees reflect the commitments we make to hotels, guides and transport on your behalf as your departure approaches.
Private Journeys
Reserving your journey
A deposit of 10% of the journey price reserves your private journey.
Fully refundable until 30 days before your journey
If you cancel 30 days or more before your journey, we refund your deposit in full, less a US $50 administrative fee.
Terms for All Journeys
Prices
All prices are quoted in US Dollars (USD) and are per person, based on shared accommodation unless otherwise stated. Prices include the services listed in the itinerary under "What's Included."
How to cancel
If you need to cancel your booking, please notify us in writing by email. Cancellation fees are calculated from the date we receive your written notice.
Late payment
If the balance is not received by the due date, we reserve the right to treat the booking as cancelled and apply the cancellation fees set out above.
Travel insurance
Travel insurance with medical cover is mandatory for all participants. We also strongly recommend cover for trip cancellation to protect your investment (see Section 8).
4. What's Included
Unless otherwise stated in the specific tour itinerary, the tour price includes:
- Accommodation in hand-selected hotels for the duration of the tour
- Daily breakfast and select group meals as specified in the itinerary
- Private transportation throughout the tour
- All entrance fees to synagogues, museums, memorial sites, and archives
- Full expert guiding services from arrival to departure
5. What's Not Included
The following are not included in the tour price unless explicitly stated:
- International flights and airport transfers (unless specified)
- Travel insurance (medical cover mandatory — see Section 8)
- Meals not specified in the itinerary
- Personal expenses, tips, and gratuities
- Visa fees, if applicable
- Single room supplement, if requested
- Pre-tour genealogical research (available as an additional service)
6. Cancellation or Changes by JRT
We reserve the right to cancel or modify a tour if circumstances require it — including insufficient enrolment, safety concerns, political instability, natural disasters, or other events beyond our reasonable control.
If we cancel a tour, you will be offered the choice of an alternative departure date, transfer to a different tour, or a full refund of all payments made. We are not liable for additional costs you may have incurred, such as flights or other travel arrangements.
We may make minor changes to an itinerary at any time due to local conditions, site closures, or logistical requirements. Such changes do not constitute cancellation and no compensation is due.
7. Itinerary Changes and Flexibility
Our itineraries are carefully planned, but heritage travel in Central and Eastern Europe sometimes requires flexibility. Sites may be unexpectedly closed, road conditions may change, or new opportunities may arise. We reserve the right to adjust the itinerary during the tour to ensure the best possible experience. No refund is due for minor variations from the published itinerary.
8. Travel Insurance
Medical insurance is mandatory. All participants must hold travel insurance covering medical expenses and emergency evacuation for the full duration of the tour.
We also strongly recommend that your policy include:
- Trip cancellation and interruption
- Personal liability
- Baggage loss or delay
We cannot accept responsibility for any costs arising from inadequate or absent insurance cover.
9. Health and Fitness
Our tours involve moderate physical activity, including walking on uneven ground, cobbled streets, and in cemeteries. Participants should be comfortable walking and standing for extended periods. If you have any health conditions or mobility concerns that may affect your participation, please inform us at the time of booking so that we can advise whether the tour is suitable and, where possible, make accommodations.
10. Participant Conduct
We visit sites of profound historical and emotional significance, including synagogues, cemeteries, and Holocaust memorials. We expect all participants to conduct themselves with respect and sensitivity at all times. We reserve the right to ask any participant whose behaviour is disruptive or disrespectful to leave the tour, without refund.
11. Liability
Jewish Roots Travel acts as an organiser of tours and engages third-party suppliers for accommodation, transportation, and other services. We select our suppliers with care, but we are not liable for any injury, loss, damage, delay, or irregularity arising from the acts or omissions of these third parties, or from events beyond our reasonable control.
Our total liability for any claim arising from a tour shall not exceed the total tour price paid by the participant.
12. Photography and Media
We may take photographs or video during tours for use on our website, social media, and promotional materials. By participating in a tour, you consent to the use of your likeness in such materials. If you prefer not to be photographed, please let us know at the start of the tour and we will respect your wishes.
13. Governing Law
These Terms are governed by the laws of Romania. Any disputes arising from or in connection with these Terms shall be subject to the jurisdiction of the courts of Bucharest, Romania.
